Ban the Box, Are You Compliant?

As the box legislation continues to sweep the nation, We’ve taken the time to search multiple resources and put together a free download that will help you better understand this confusing legislation.

Ban the Box is a movement to remove areas where employers ask for the disclosure of criminal records in the application process. The organization that is spearheading this legislative tidal wave is called the National Employment Law Project or “NELP”


NELP and their supporters have pledged:

  • To open up opportunities for people with past convictions in the workplace
  • To welcome people back to the community after their release from jail or prison
  • To institute fair hiring practices concerning past convictions
  • To eliminate any restrictions on membership, volunteer or Board participation that may exclude people with arrest or conviction history

In order to stay compliant with Ban the Box guidelines, employers need to constantly review and monitor this progressing movement.  It can be difficult to stay up-to-date which could potentially lead to unnecessary litigation or other actions against employers.
